Walecka Top Endicott Men's Runner at CCC Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Alex Walecka (North Dartmouth, Mass.) and Mitchell Renfrew (Barkhamsted, Conn.) ran well for the Gulls in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championships.  Walecka finished in a time of 29:52 as he continued to be the top runner for the Gulls.  Renfrew finished a solid season as well as he finished in a time of 31:37.  

Walecka has been the top Endicott runner in every meet this season.  His dedication to conditioning in the off season and in practice has helped him improve dramatically over his freshman campaign.  Renfrew has shown steady improvement through his first season of cross country running at the collegiate level.

Roger Williams captured the team championship today at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championships that were held on Western New England's campus. This is the Hawks 12th consecutive CCC men's cross country title. 

Roger Williams junior John Ferguson (Bethel, Conn.) bested the entire field to earn runner of the year honors with an 8K time of 26:52.

All-CCC recognition was given to the top-10 finishers, while Runner of the Year honors is awarded to the top finisher, and Rookie of the Year to the top "freshman" runner.

University of New England sophomore Chad Lyons (West Rutland, Vt.) finished just three ticks behind Ferguson with a time of 26:55, while Roger Williams freshman Doug Sasso (Watertown, Conn.) finished third with a time of 26:57. Sasso also earned the rookie of the year award.

Roger Williams senior Steve Carnevale (Easton, Mass.) finished fourth with a time of 27:09, while Salve Regina freshman Sean Hughes (Old Saybrook, Conn.) finished one tick behind with a time of 27:10 for fifth place, and Roger Williams sophomore Jack Dunleavy (Orange, Conn.) took sixth with a 27:20 finish.

Rounding out the top-10 CCC Championship Runners for All-CCC recognition were University of New England sophomore Shane Murphy (Glastonbury, Conn.) (27:23), Roger Williams freshman Chris Busby (Merrimack, N.H.) (27:28), Roger Williams sophomore Kevin Terbush (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) (27:59), and University of New England freshman Cameron Vallie (Nashua, N.H.) (28:12). 

Gordon earned the conference's team sportsmanship award while the coach of the year honor went to Roger Williams head coach Sean Livingston.

The senior scholar-athlete award went to Mike O'Brien (Manchester, Maine) from Eastern Nazarene. O'Brien is a physics/electrical engineering major who holds a 3.96 grade point average.
