Men’s Volleyball Falls To Lasell, 3-1, In Final Match Of JWU Tip-Off

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Endicott men's volleyball team fell to Lasell College, 3-1, by scores of 25-18, 22-25, 25-20, and 25-20 on Saturday evening in the Gulls' final match of the Johnson & Wales University (JWU) Tip-Off at the Wildcat Center.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Endicott freshman outside Bryn Lipton (Rockford, Ill.) was named to the JWU Tip-Off All-Tournament Team. Lipton compiled 52 kills (3.47 per set), a .260 hitting percentage, four assists, two service aces, 16 digs, and six blocks (four solo, two assisted) over four matches played to help the Gulls go 3-1 this weekend.

In Endicott's match versus Lasell, Lipton guided the Gulls' attack with 12 kills on 22 swings (.455) to go along with six digs, an assist, and a block (assisted). Daniel Toth (Glenwood, N.J.) added eight kills on 13 swings (.538), while Troy Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) had six putaways and Seth Braquet (Destrehan, La.) notched four (.571).

Chad Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) dished out a team-high 23 assists, while Adam Dake (Victor, N.Y.) had 15. Meanwhile, Lipton and Ryan Healy (Fair Lawn, N.J.) tied for the team-high in digs with six apiece.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Despite the loss, Endicott is 18-5 in the all-time series versus Lasell.
  • The Gulls were on a three-match winning streak prior to their loss to the Lasers.
  • Today's match featured 12 tied scores and two lead changes (11 ties, two lead changes in the first set).

FOR THE FOES

  • Tristan Davis (Rochester, N.Y.) led all student-athletes with a match-high 14 kills (.286).
  • Jeffrey Vautrin (Chicopee, Mass.) was second on the team with nine kills, while Patrick MacDonald (Floral Park, N.Y.) and Janci Soto (Lawrence, Mass.) chipped in with eight kills each.
  • Andy Henriquez (Lawrence, Mass.) ran the offense on a match-high 41 assists.
  • Jordan Aprea (Newington, Conn.) highlighted the defense with 14 digs.
  • Soto also contributed one block solo, and eight block assists in the win.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (4-6) takes on No. 3 Stevens and No. 5 Wentworth in a tri-match in Boston, Mass. next Saturday at 1 PM and 3 PM, respectively. Lasell (6-0), who is receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) poll, visits Staten Island next Friday at 7 PM.
