PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Endicott men's volleyball team earned a pair of wins on Friday night against Johnson & Wales University (JWU) and Bard College in its opening matches of the JWU Tip-Off at the Wildcat Center.
Endicott defeated host JWU, 3-1, by scores of 25-23, 28-30, 25-21, and 25-23, and turned away Bard College, 3-0, by scores of 25-14, 25-18, and 25-18.
MATCH ONE: Endicott 3, JWU 1 (25-23, 28-30, 25-21, 25-23)
Tied 1-1 after the first two sets, Endicott stormed back in set three with a match-high 16 kills and a .355 hitting percentage en route to its victory over the Wildcats.
Freshman Bryn Lipton (Rockford, Ill.) erupted for a match-high 16 kills on 32 swings (.250), while Daniel Toth (Glenwood, N.J.) sent home 13 kills on 22 attempts (.409) to highlight the offense. Donovan Dey (Fairport, N.Y.) also notched nine kills, and Chad Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) and Adam Dake (Victor, N.Y.) ran the offense with 24 and 22 assists, respectively.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott is 16-9 overall in the all-time series versus JWU, which dates back to 2/7/2000.
- The 24-assist performance for Riorden was a career-high.
- Lipton's 16 kills were also a career-high
FOR THE FOES
- Brendan Baker (Providence, R.I.) had a team-high nine kills.
- Kanila Chang (Orlando, Fla.) tallied eight putaways, while Cameron Ponce (San Jose, Calif.) ran the offense with a match-high 33 assists.
MATCH TWO: Endicott 3, Bard 0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-18)
Endicott hit .290 or better in two out of three sets, and .276 overall, in its quick win over Bard to cap its 2-0 night in the opening day of the JWU Tip-Off.
The Gulls saw nine student-athletes notch at least one kill in the contest, which was highlighted by Lipton's match-high seven putaways. Tim Fieseler (Bridgewater, N.J.) and Jacob Newman (Chester, N.H.) also stood out for Endicott as both student-athletes registered five kills apiece.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott is 4-0 in the all-time series versus Bard.
- The Gulls have only dropped one set in the four meetings against Bard.
- Riorden and Dake had 14 and 12 assists, respectively, in the victory.
- Fieseler hit .571 in the second match of the night for the Gulls (5K, 1E, 7A).
FOR THE FOES
- Alex Adams (Fire Island, N.Y.) guided the Raptors' attack with six kills.
- Stefan Briggs (San Francisco, Calif.) was second on the squad with five putaways, while Tyler Zowaski (Darien, Ill.) had four kills.
- Mahir Sheikh (Bronx, N.Y.) facilitated the offense on 19 assists.
