BEVERLY, MA - Josh Lewis (Groveland, MA/Pentucket) scored the game-winning goal on a breakaway in the second overtime period, propelling Endicott College past Colby-Sawyer College, 2-1, Sunday night at Endicott Stadium in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Quarterfinals.
Ruben Margolis (Mexico City, Mexico) sent Lewis, the team's leading scorer, in alone after Elias Carrero (Great Barrington, MA/Monumen Mountain) started the play in the Endicott end. Lewis fired a left-footed rocket from inside the box that went under a diving Colby-Sawyer senior goaltender Adam Perron (Hampden, MA/Wilbraham Monson Academy).
Colby-Sawyer's Nic Dezenzo (Methuen, MA/Brewster Academy) started the scoring in the 3rd minute of play when he was awarded a penalty shot and went to the lower left corner for the goal and an early 1-0 advantage.
The Gulls dominated the remainder of the first half and even had a goal called back in the 13th minute on an offside call. Perron stymied the hosts for nearly the entire first half, but the Gulls finally broke through on a Joshua Golden (Naragansett, RI/Naragansett) shot from the left side of the box. Midfielder Kyle Austin (Keene, NH/Keene) recorded the game-tying assist in the 37th minute.
Both netminders came up big on several occasions in the second half. Endicott goaltender Cameron Twiss (Reading, MA/Bishop Fenwick) kept the game knotted at 1-1, making a diving save on a Brian Doucette (Boxford, MA/Masconomet) breakaway in the 57th minute while Carrero was robbed by Perron on a direct kick in the 70th minute on a blast labeled for the lower left corner.
Endicott will travel to Gordon College Tuesday (1:00 PM) for a CCC Semifinal match.
