Endicott hires Coan to lead golf program
BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College Director of Athletics Brian Wylie has announced the hiring of Stephen R. Coan as the new head men’s and women’s golf coach effective immediately. Coan, a lifelong resident of Beverly, Massachusetts, inherits a men’s program that captured the 2009 TCCC Invitational and ECAC New England Championship this past fall.

Coan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Colby College, where he was a member of the Mules’ golf and lacrosse programs. He then went on to earn his M.B.A. in entrepreneurship from the Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College in 2008.

The 2010 season will mark the first head coaching position in Coan’s successful career. He brings 18 years of professional experience in consulting, marketing and business development, including nine years in the golf industry to the Endicott Athletics Department. Coan worked for the Acushnet Company (Titleist, FootJoy & Cobra) from 1996-2005 marketing, selling and servicing the FootJoy product line, while establishing valuable connections with some of New England’s premier courses.

“I know the role athletics should play in the life of a student-athlete,” said Coan. “Athletics instill confidence, enhance and develop collaborative skills, and serve as a foundation for relationships that will last well into the future.”

In August of 2008 Coan established MS2 Consulting, a management consultant firm that specializes in marketing, sales and strategy. As the Founder and President, Coan has collaborated with startup ventures to evaluate business models, marketing initiatives, expenses, budgets and capital requirements for expansion.

Coan will adopt a program philosophy that emphasizes the importance of the student-athlete. His men’s program will return nine members from the conference championship squad from a year ago, and he will also continue working with the upstart women’s club program.
