BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott field hockey team hosted CCC opponent Roger Williams on Wednesday afternoon. Five different Gulls scored in the contest, while junior Emily Sawchuck (Cumberland, Maine) tallied two for a final score of 6-2. Endicott moves to .500 at a 7-7, (4-3 CCC) while the Hawks fall to 3-10, (0-8 CCC).
The first frame was controlled by the Gulls as they outshot the Hawks 11-5. Sawchuck started the scoring early for the Blue and Green, at 8:46 the Gulls were awarded an offensive corner. Sawchuck inserted the ball and ran down to the right post, she grabbed the ball off of a Hawks defender and flicked the ball into the back of the net to take the 1-0 lead.
Five minutes later sophomore Morgan Bresnahan (South Burlington, Vt.) tallied her fourth goal of the season after she received a pass from junior Mackenzie Hurst (Gilford, N.H.) and dribbled around the top of the circle and swept the ball into the left corner to put the Gulls up by two.
The Hawks had an opportunity to get on the board as freshman Meghan Curran (West Milford, N.J.) blasted a shot at goal but senior goalkeeper Lizetta Solarik (Carmel, N.Y.) came up with the save. At 29:02 Hurst tallied her 9th goal of the season after she picked up a rebound off of Lavoie's pads and banked the ball into the left post.
30 seconds later the Hawks final answered back as Curran got redemption on Solarik and tipped the ball high to the right corner off an initial shot from freshman Kaitlin Massey (Mendon, Mass.) to make it a 3-1 game.
Two minutes later the Gulls answered back when senior Amanda Glynn (Hampton, N.H.) recorded her first goal of the season as she swept the ball across cage to find the back of the net to give Endicott the 4-1 advantage to enter halftime.
The second half showed a little more pressure from the Hawks as each squad tallied six shots a piece. Two minutes into the frame senior Stacie Teevens (Westborough, Mass.) earned her second goal on the season after she picked up a rebound off Lavoie's pads and slipped it past to make it a 5-1 game.
Three minutes later Sawchuck tallied her second goal on the day and her 9th of the season as she came down alone through the offensive 25 and broke through two defenders to find herself alone with Lavoie, she caught her off angle and slammed the ball into the back board to finish the Blue and Green's scoring at six goals.
At 54:12 the Hawks got their second tally on the board as freshman Abby Treweek (Lakeville, Mass.) took a shot from the top of the circle on the left side that was just out of reach of sophomore goalkeeper Rose Bradley (Pottstown, Pa.) as it reached the back of the net.
The goal would be the last for both squads as the Gulls topped the Hawks 6-2.
