Four Gulls Score in 7-0 Victory Over Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Endicott field hockey team traveled to Roger Williams on Tuesday night for a CCC matchup. Tonight marked the first time the two squads have met as Endicott topped the Hawks 7-0. Three different Gulls scored twice while eight Gulls tallied points on the evening. Endicott now moves to 5-3, (2-0 CCC) while the Hawks fall to 2-4, (0-3 CCC).

The first half was all about the Blue and Green as they led the frame in shots 18-2. Endicott scored three goals in just over eight minutes to lead the Hawks 3-0 entering halftime. Junior Mackenzie Hurst (Gilford, N.H.) started the scoring at the 22:26 mark after she received a short pass from junior Meghan Leary (Hampton Falls, N.H.) to find herself right in front of the goal and banked it into the right side corner to give the Gulls the early lead.

Four minutes later junior Kathryn Walker (Middlebury, Conn.) found the back of the net after she controlled a deflection off freshman goalkeeper Melora Lavioe (Portland, Maine) and pushed it into goal. Juniors Emily Sawchuck and Elizabeth LeClair (Wilton, Maine) started the play off that resulted in the Walker goal after they both blasted shots towards Lavioe, and created the deflection that Walker was able to grab. It did not take long for Endicott to add another tally to the board as senior Elizabeth Farr (Rindge, N.H.) was able to get a stick in off a Leary pass to make a quick tip in to give the Gulls the 3-0 lead entering halftime.

The Gulls picked up right where they left off starting the second frame. At 38:23 Walker scored her second goal of the night after she received a pass down the right side from Sawchuck and took a shot right in front of the net to slit it past Lavoie.

Endicott was really strong on their offensive corners as they were able to capitalize and create scoring opportunities. At 46:23 junior Alyssa Clark (Gorham, Maine) blasted the ball in from the top of the circle where Hurst was able to get a stick on it for the tip in to record her second goal of the night.

The Hawks did not go quietly as they gave senior goalkeeper Lizetta Solarik (Carmel, N.Y.) some action in the frame as she faced four shots. They had a great opportunity at 54:11 when junior Sarah Link (Blossvale, N.Y.) blasted a shot from the top of the circle, but Solarik was able to step out and cut the angle off to make the save.

At 62:13 the Gulls had a big man up opportunity with four players in front of the net to disrupt the Hawks defense. LeClair was able to take advantage of a loose ball off a Lavoie deflection and found the back of the net to make it a 6-0 game. LeClair was not finished quite yet as she was hungry for more. When the clock hit 68:10 the Gulls were awarded a corner, LeClair inserted the ball to the top of the circle and snuck in towards the left corner, junior Jessica Linden (Stratford, Conn.) sent the ball in from the top of the circle and LeClair made a crisp one time sweep to sneak it by Lavoie.

LeClair's goal would be the last for the Blue and Green as they blanked the Hawks 7-0. Roger Williams did have a couple of opportunities but Solarik and the Endicott defense were able to shut them down to record the shutout. Solarik recorded four saves while her counterpart Lavoie recorded 10. Hurst, Walker and LeClair each tallied two goals in the night, while Leary recorded two asissts.

Endicott will look ahead to a Thursday as the host friendly foe MIT for a 6:00 PM start, while the Hawks will also play on Thursday as the travel to Framingham State for a 4:00 PM start.
