Second Half Surge Lifts Curry over Endicott, 38-6

Final Stats

MILTON, MA - Ryan Van De Giesen (North Attleboro, MA/Bridgton Academy) ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more, leading Curry College to a 38-6 win against visiting Endicott College in an NEFC Boyd division battle Saturday night.

The Colonels scored 31 second-half points to break open a tight 7-0 game at halftime. Curry won its 26h New England Football Conference (NEFC) game in a row and collected its 25th consecutive home victory. The undefeated Colonels (7-0, 4-0 NEFC Boyd) will host undefeated Plymouth State next Saturday in a battle for the top spot in the NEFC Boyd Division.

In the first half, both teams combined for four turnovers, nine punts and one missed field goal. In fact, Curry turned the ball over on three of its first four possessions, but the Blue and Green (1-5, 1-3 NEFC Boyd) failed to capitalize on the Colonels' miscues. Curry broke the deadlock on its fifth possession of the half when Van De Giesen broke free for a 47-yard touchdown scamper at 13:14 of the second quarter.

Much like last seasons meeting at EC, the second half went in favor of Curry, as the Colonels controlled the ball for 22 of 30 minutes over the final two frames. Curry scored touchdowns on four-consecutive possessions - a three-yard run by Steve DiFabio (Salem, NH/Pinkerton), a 13-yard reception by Brian Taylor (North Chelmsford, MA/Lowell), a 10-yard run by Van De Giesen and a 20-yard reception by Jon Rodriguez (Leominster, MA/Leominster).

The Gulls finally dented the scoreboard with 9:45 remaining in the game on a five-yard pass from Vinny Orlando (Manchester, MA/Manchester-Essex) to Jake Maxfield (Newport, NH/Newport Middle).

Curry out-gained Endicott, 498-191, and collected more than twice as many first-downs, 29-13. For the Colonels, Van De Giesen rushed for a game-high 124 yards, while completing 19 of 31 pass attempts for 235 yards. Taylor led all receivers with seven catches for 99 yards. The Gulls were led by Drew Cusato (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack), who ran 19 times for 65 yards, and Orlando, who completed 10 of 28 pass attempts for 110 yards. On defense, Curry was paced by Tom Pinto (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth North), who shared team-high tackling honors with five solo hits, a sack, a fumble recovery and a blocked extra-point. As a team, the Colonels collected six tackles for loss, two interceptions and eight pass break-ups. Endicott was led by David Coflesky (Royalston, MA/Athol), who amassed a game-high eight tackles (all solo).

Next Saturday, while the Colonels host the Panthers in a battle of unbeaten division rivals, the Gulls celebrate Homecoming with a noon game against Western New England College in Beverly.
