DAYTONA BEACH, FL - The Endicott College cheerleaders placed eighth out of 16 teams in the annual NCA Collegiate National Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida. This was Endicott's first trip to the world's largest collegiate cheerleading competition. The young squad also received a nomination for the NCA Sportsmanship award.
On day one of the competition, the Gulls placed ninth out of the competiting 16 teams. Due to their placement, the only way to make it to the day two Finals would be to win The Challenge Cup. At the Challenge Cup competition, the cheer team perfected their routine and took home the first place trophy, edging out Stonehill College. The victory earned Endicott the right to compete on the bandshell in the finals. Endicott finished 8th overall in finals competition.
"The cheerleaders got to experience exactly what competitive college cheering is all about," said advisor Amy Wilichosky. "They worked hard all season and it really paid off."
The Gulls will truly miss a talented group of seniors in Kristin Fraser (Wilmington, MA/Wilmington), Jamie Aiello (Gloucester, MA/Gloucester), Kristen Marcotte (Bedford, MA/West High) and Joy Higley (Suffield, CT).
Try-out information for next year's squad will be posted shortly.
