Beverly, MA - The Endicott College Football Team closed out its inaugural season with a 31-13 win over the visiting MIT Engineers. The Gulls finished up with a 4-5 record overall, while MIT fell to 3-6 on the year.
The first half scoring was all Endicott. With 1:50 to go in the 1st quarter, Matt Thompson had a 32 yard touchdown run for Endicott to put the Gulls up 7-0. Then in the 2nd quarter with 7:04 remaining, Dan Marshall caught a 28 yard pass from Jameson Pelkey to push the Gulls ahead 14-0. With just 4 seconds remaining in the half, Gavin Fazio kicked a 28 yard field goal to put Endicott on top at the half 17-0.
The Gulls came out strong in the second half. With 10:17 on the clock in the 3rd quarter, Thompson scored again for the Gulls this time on a 3 yard touchdown extending the lead to 24-0. Endicott scored for the last time, 0:49 seconds into the 4th quarter. Scott Peters caught a 29 yard pass from Pelkey giving the Gulls a commanding lead 31-0.
MIT would not go down without a fight, adding two scores late in the game. Quarterback Adam Love ran for a 4 yard touchdown with 12:54 remaining in the game making the score 31-7. Then with 3:32 remaining in the contest David Ostlund ran 1 yard for another touchdown run for MIT concluding the scoring at 31-13.
The Gulls netted 371 yards on offense, 213 of which were rushing yards. The Engineers netted 314 yards on offense but managed to get 240 yards passing. Both teams rounded up 18 first downs respectively but the Gulls successfully executed 7 of 15 third down conversions where as the Engineers only converted 2 of 14.
Jameson Pelkey threw for 158 yards on 19 attempts, with 9 completions, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Scott Peters had an even 100 yards receiving with 1 touchdown for Endicott.
Adam Love threw for an impressive 240 yards passing on 35 attempts, with 18 completions, but failed to throw for a touchdown. Tom Kilpatrick had 9 catches for 167 yards on the day for MIT.
Orlando Johnson led the Endicott defense with 7 tackles and Brennan Sherry led the way for the Engineers with 9 tackles, 3 of which were for a loss and 1 sack.
