Crew Enters First Regatta In School History

Sept. 30, 2008

The newly re-founded crew program is undergoing final preparations for the first official regatta (non-scrimmage) in team history. On Saturday, October 11, crew will travel to Pembroke, NH for the New Hampshire Championships Regatta where they will enter a women's open 4+, women's novice 4+, and men's novice 4+ to compete with at least seven other New England colleges. The crew relies heavily on senior rower Aly Probulous, freshman rower Laura Zorn, and freshman coxswain Kaitlyn Walker, all of whom bring previous rowing experience to the mostly novice crew. This will be the first regatta for the rest of the crew, which is a very young team consisting of mostly Freshman and Sophomores, and is the first step in making Endicott Crew a legitimate rowing program. While most of the crew is young and inexperienced, Coach Chorney is impressed with how quick everyone is learning technique and improving every practice. In just the fifth on-water practice, the crew was rowing an 8+ with the entire boat rowing on the feather. The very next practice, the crew was able to row in 4+s with the entire boat rowing on the feather. The crew has worked hard the past few weeks, rowing on the water 4 days a week and performing land workouts (weight lifting and cardio training) 2 additional day a week, and is sure to see success on the water in the near future.

Crew's second and final regatta of the fall season will be held on Sunday, November 2, on the upper part of the Charles River in Newton, MA against similarly sized local schools Brandeis, Roger Williams, and Wentworth Institute of Technology. The Endicott community is encouraged to attend and support their team.
