Men’s Tennis Shuts Out Curry, 9-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Endicott men's tennis team claimed its fourth shutout victory of the season with a 9-0 win over Curry College on Saturday afternoon.

Freshmen Jeffrey Thor (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Christos Papadopoulos (Weymouth, Mass.) claimed an 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles to start the day before Sean McAndrews (Vineyhard Haven, Mass.) and Nicholas Eherts (New Milford, Conn.) produced an 8-2 triumph in the No. 3 slot.

Eric Pierce (Barrington, R.I.) and Keaton McCleary (Newtown, Conn.) wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 1.

In singles play, Anthony Rinaldi (Attleboro Falls, Mass.) downed his opponent at No. 6 by a 6-0, 6-0 score, while Sam Salvas (Stowe, Vt.) turned in an identical victory at No. 5 to secure the match-win for the Gulls. Ozan Cermik (Cumberland, R.I.) followed with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 before Michael Dolph (Stratford, Conn.) claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2.

Christopher Kirkpatrick (Newburyport, Mass.) also picked up a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 1, while Matthew Doherty (Plymouth, Mass.) concluded the list of winners for the Gulls with a 6-3, 6-4 decision at the No. 2 position.

"It was great to see the entire roster have a hand in today's win," said Endicott men's tennis head coach Jeremy Howard. "We will now shift our focus towards Monday and our big battle with crosstown rival Gordon."

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • All five freshmen earned a win between singles and doubles play today (Cermik, McCleary, Papadopoulos, Rinaldi, Thor). 
  • Endicott has won two matches in a row, both by 9-0 scores (Salve Regina/Curry).
  • Papadopoulos and Thor won their first-ever match as a double pairings today.
  • McAndrews and Eherts currently have a five-match winning streak going as a doubles pairing.
  • Cermik is 1-0 at No. 4 singles this season, while Salvas is 2-0 at No. 5.
  • Rinaldi notched his first career singles victory today at No. 6.

Endicott (8-6, 3-1 CCC) travels to Gordon on Monday for a conference match at 4 p.m. Curry (1-15, 0-6 CCC) hosts UMass Dartmouth this coming Wednesday at a time to be determined later.
