BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott junior Eric Pierce (Barrington, R.I.) and freshman Keaton McCleary (Newtown, Conn.) have both earned Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) weekly awards, as announced by the league office earlier today. Pierce was named the CCC Player of the Week, while McCleary picked up Rookie of the Week accolades.
In matches against Eastern Nazarene and Western New England last week, Pierce won both of his singles and doubles matches to help the Gulls claim two victories, including one in the CCC Quarterfinals. Playing in the No. 3 singles position, the junior bested the No. 3 student-athlete from Eastern Nazarene in straight sets to finish the regular season. Pierce also won in second doubles.
Playing in the same spots during the first round of the conference tournament, Pierce found the same results as he bested Western New England's No. 3 in singles and its No. 2 doubles pair.
Meanwhile, McCleary went 3-0 for the Gulls last week. In his final regular season match, McCleary beat Eastern Nazarene's second doubles pair and its No. 5 position in singles. In the first round of the CCC Championship, McCleary helped the Gulls get off to a quick start winning his match at No. 2 doubles against Western New England. He was also leading at No. 6 singles when Endicott earned the decision in the match, ending the contest.
