Gulls Taken Down in CCC Semifinals

Final Stats

WENHAM, MA - It was a game ripe for the taking. And it was an ideal situation for Endicott College and head coach Stefano Franciosa in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Semifinals versus Gordon College.

A full 90 minutes was not enough to decide who would face top-seeded Roger Williams in the final. The No. 3 Gulls and No. 2 Fighting Scots played to a scoreless draw in regulation, but Aaron Vogelzang (Jericho, VT) sent the Gordon faithful into a frenzy when his shot found the back of the net in the first overtime session for a 1-0 Fighting Scots' victory Wednesday afternoon.

Bryan Wills (Pawtucket, CT) picked off a clearing attempt after a corner kick and Dave McMullen (Silver Lake, OH) found Vogelzang just inside the box and the junior floated a shot into the left corner 4:23 into the first extra session.

The Gulls were playing their second consecutive overtime game and the fatigue showed in the waining minutes of regulation and at the start of the overtime.

Josh Lewis (Groveland, MA/Pentucket) had a chance to end the contest in regulation on a head ball that appeared to be going into the left corner of the goal. However, Scots' netminder Peter Hassler (Westford, VT) came across with the play and got a hand on the ball to preserve the tie.

Endicott sophomore goaltender Cameron Twiss (Reading, MA/Bishop Fenwick) equaled the efforts of Hassler. Twiss made save after save on the Scots. When he was not making saves it was because of senior captain Daniel Duvernoy (Hamilton, NY/Hamilton), who dominated the middle of the field from his sweeper position.

The Gulls finished the season 9-9-1 overall while Gordon moved to 13-5-0 and will face the Hawks (15-2-3) Saturday (1 PM) for the CCC title and an automatic NCAA berth.
