Bears Too Strong for Gulls in Second Half

BEVERLY, MA -- Bridgewater scored three times in the second half and goaltender John Naughton (Braintree, MA/Braintree) made eight saves to propel the Bears past Endicott, 4-0, in a non-league contest Monday afternoon at Endicott Stadium.

The Bears equaled their record at 3-3-0 (0-0-0 MASCAC) and the Gulls dropped to 2-7-0 (2-2-0 CCC).

Freshman midfielder Jon Nutting (Rockland, MA/Rockland) got Bridgewater on the scoreboard with 2:54 remaining in the first half. Nutting went short side to beat Endicott sophomore goaltender Cameron Twiss (Reading, MA/Bishop Fenwick). Twiss finished with five saves in 47 minutes of action.

The Bears doubled their lead at 2-0 in the 47th minute when Topher Paone (South Easton,MA/Oliver Ames) headed in a corner kick from Takashi Suzuki (Kanuma, Japan/Kanuma-Higashi).

Bridgewater increased the lead to 3-0 on a goal by freshman forward Joe Zguro (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) with 16:25 remaining in regulation and rounded out the scoring in the 81st minute on a free kick on the left side of the 18-yard line by senior forward Mike Quinn (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth) that went into the upper right corner of the net.

Senior Kyle Austin (Keene, NH/Keene) and Daniel Duvernoy (Hamilton, NY/Hamilton) along with sophomore Elias Carrero (Great Barrington, MA/Monumen Mountain) played well at midfield for Endicott, which travels to Fitchburg Thursday (4 pm) and Anna Maria (2:30 pm) Saturday.
