Nine Gulls recognized on All-CCC Men's Lacrosse Team

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –First Team honorees Brendan Eppley (Darien, Conn.), Jon Thanas (Cumberland, R.I.), and Breck Merritt (Weston, Mass.) led a group of nine Endicott men's lacrosse players who were given All-CCC awards on Saturday as it was announced by league commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.
 
Eight of the nine All-CCC players from Endicott received their first ever collegiate postseason award. 
 
Eppley and Thanas constituted two of the three First Team Midfielder slots after finishing one-two in total points for Endicott this season.  Eppley had a career year with 37 points, besting his 2011 output by 18 points, after leading the Gulls in both goals (20) and assists (17).  He had a .573 shot on goal percentage at the end of the regular season.  Thanas scored career-high 18 goals and finished with 27 points.  Seven of his 18 goals of were scored on man-up opportunities which was tops on the team. 
 
Merritt, a sophomore first line defenseman, led Endicott with 33 caused turnovers and finished second with 58 groundballs. 
 
The All-CCC Second Team included defenseman Greg Szkop (New Britain, Conn.), midfielder Michael Armstrong (Winchester, Mass.) and faceoff man Sam Ozycz (Cheshire, Conn.).  Szkop had 15 caused turnovers and 28 groundballs in 16 game starts in 2012.  Armstrong was a defensive presence in the midfield for the Blue and Green, causing 19 turnovers, scooping 28 groundballs, and offensively contributed with a goal and an assist.  Ozycz, recognized as one of the top faceoff men in the country, finished with a .625 winning percentage on the draw going 187-for-299.  He went on to grab 109 groundballs while scoring three goals with two assists.  Ozycz currently ranks top-30 in all of NCAA DIII in both faceoff win percentage and groundballs per game. 
 
Endicott's final three All-CCC winners, midfielder Connor Prescott (Norwalk, Conn.), defenseman Anthony Martignetti (Winchester, Mass.) and long stick midfielder Kyle Burke (Haverhill, Mass.) were all recognized on the Honorable Mention team.  Prescott ranked third on the team in points (23) after scoring 15 goals and eight assists.  Martignetti caused 13 turnovers and controlled 20 groundballs in 13 games played this season.  Burke showcased a well-balanced game with 16 caused turnovers, 28 groundballs, three goals and two assists.  He set career-highs in all of those statistics in his junior year. 
 
Endicott (8-8, 5-2 CCC) will be playing as the \#3 seed in the CCC Tournament starting on Saturday, April 28th at 2:00 pm against \#6 Nichols (7-8, 2-5 CCC) in the quarterfinals.
