BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott men’s lacrosse looked to create a cluster of one-loss teams in the CCC as they took on \#18 Western New England, who was unbeaten in conference play, but suffered a 7-3 defeat on their home turf on Thursday night.

Under three minutes into the start of the second half, Endicott junior midfielder Peter Erickson (Yarmouth, Maine) fired a shot past Golden Bears goalie Brandon Body (Newtown, Conn.), with an assist to Jon Thanas (Cumberland, R.I.), to bring the Gulls to within one at 4-3.   Both teams nearly went scoreless for the remainder of the third quarter until Western New England senior Patrick White (Milton, Mass.) scored with just 0.5 seconds on the clock to put the visitors on top by two.

White’s goal ignited a three-goal streak for the Golden Bears as sophomore Sean Lawton (Abington, Mass.) and junior Corbett Corrigan Harreys (Essex, Conn.) finished off the scoring to make it 7-3 Western New England.  Both goals were assisted by Joe O’Keefe (Branford, Conn.).

Endicott’s two first half goals were scored by Thanas, an unassisted tally at 11:26 in the first, and senior Brendan Eppley (Darien, Conn.), also unassisted late in the second quarter.

For Western New England, White and Lawton both finished with two goals while Harreys, Nick Donovan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and Adam Knapton (Canandaigue, N.Y.) each added a goal.

In goal, Golden Bears freshman Brandon Body was a force between the pipes as he made 12 saves and improved to 4-0 on the season.  Endicott’s Tom Burke (Sudbury, Mass.) and Conley Cummings (Simsbury, Conn.) combined for 10 saves in the loss with each player playing a half.

Defensively, the Gulls were led by junior Kyle Burke (Haverhill, Mass.) and sophomore Breck Merritt (Weston, Mass.) who each had two caused turnovers.  Merritt also contributed with five groundballs.  Golden Bears junior Aaron Harris (Eliot, Maine) caused two turnovers for Western New England.

Gulls junior faceoff specialist Sam Ozycz (Cheshire, Conn.) won 8-of-13 attempts while scooping a game-high six groundballs.

Neither team was able to take advantage of man-up opportunities despite their being 14 penalties in the game.  Endicott held a significant advantage in groundballs (35-22).

Endicott hits the road on Saturday, April 21st when they take on CCC foe Nichols at 2:30 pm.  Western New England hosts Curry on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
