GORHAM, Maine – A late-game surge by the Endicott men’s lacrosse team created much needed separation against non-conference opponent Southern Maine as the Gulls defeated the Huskies 13-10 to win their sixth game of the season.

Junior Peter Erickson’s (Yarmouth, Maine) goal with 5:01 remaining in the third quarter broke an 8-8 tie and sparked a five-goal run by the Gulls to take a commanding 13-8 lead.  Freshman Kyle Weber (West Hartford, Conn.), Jeremy Morgan (Lake Panamoka, N.Y.), Kyle Burke (Haverhill, Mass.), and Jon Thanas (Cumberland, R.I.) all scored to help put the game away.

Thanas’ goal was his third of the game as he joined freshman Harrison Cotter (Lordship, Conn.) who had netted three-straight goals in the second quarter to help Endicott erase a 5-1 deficit after the first quarter of play.

Southern Maine’s junior midfielder Mark White (Oakville, Ontario) led all players with four goals.  Three of his four tallies came over the first 9:24 of the game, helping the home team gain the early advantage.  Only a goal by Endicott sophomore Jake Heger (Longmeadow, Mass.), assisted by Weber, interrupted Southern Maine’s 5-1 run to start the game.

Endicott would tie the game at 5-5 after sophomore Joshua Tordik’s (Sayville, N.Y.) 10th goal of the season with 1:38 to go in the half, but Huskies junior Ryan Foley (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) scored just 18 seconds later, unassisted, to give Southern Maine the 6-5 lead at the break.

Thanas scored his first of the game 1:04 into the second half before Foley struck again, this time from White, to put the Huskies back on top.  Back-to-back goals by Thanas and senior midfielder Brendan Eppley (Darien, Conn.) finally gave Endicott their first lead of the game at the 8:28 mark of the third quarter.

Less than two minutes later, Southern Maine forced the game’s fifth tie of the game after Dan Thomas (Shrewsbury, Mass.) beat the goalie.  It was Southern Maine’s last goal before Endicott scored five in-a-row.  The Huskies scored twice over the last five minutes, but it would be too late.

Behind strong faceoff play by junior Sam Ozycz (Cheshire, Conn.), the Gulls were able to get their offense in motion.  Ozycz won 17-of-24 attempts (70.8%), bringing his season total to 62.8% (130-of-207).  His 12 groundballs were also a game-high.

Between the pipes, junior goalie Tom Burke (Sudbury, Mass.) earned the win with nine saves.
