Gulls Finish Second at Western New England Invitational; Teal Second Overall

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- In their second to last tuneup before the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship, the Endicott golf team took home a second place finish at the Western New England Invitational on the Veterans Golf Course.  The Gulls finished with a team score of 313, five strokes off the winning pace, to finish second in the 11 team field.  Endicott now travels to Rhode Island on Saturday for day one of the two day Johnson & Wales Invitational at the Cranston Country Club in Cranston, R.I.

Leading the charge for the Gulls was Austin Teal (Loudonville, N.Y.) as the junior shot a +2, 74 to finish just one stroke off the medalist score of +1, 73.  Sophomore Dan Negus (Pembroke, Mass.) and junior Alex Viola (Brunswick, Maine) also finished in the top 10, as Negus finished tied for sixth with a +6, 78 while Viola closed with a +7, 79.  

Drew Benshoff (Concord, Mass.) and Ben Palazzo (Farmington, Conn.) rounded out the scoring for the Gulls, finishing with rounds of +10, 82 and +11, 83, respectively.  The two freshmen finished 22nd and 24th in the 56 man field.

With the second place finish, the Gulls have now finished in the top five 11 times throughout the 2014-15 season as they travel to to Rhode Island on Saturday for day one of the two day Johnson & Wales Invitational at the Cranston Country Club in Cranston, R.I.  That will be the last regular season event before the Gulls look to defend their CCC title in the CCC Championships the following weekend which will be hosted at the Beverly Golf and Tennis Club.
