CCC Athletes of the Week Release (Week Ending October 5, 2014)
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) released their weekly awards Monday morning and two members of the golf team were recognized. Junior Alex Viola (Brunswick, Maine) earned his second Golfer of the Week accolade while freshman Ben Palazzo (Farmington, Conn.) was named Rookie of the Week for the first time in his career.
The Endicott men's golf team had a great showing at the University of New England Invitational last week in Kennebunkport, Maine at the Cape Arundel Golf Club. The squad placed first out of six competitors while Viola and Palazzo each posted key numbers for the Blue and Green.
Viola tied for first place at the invitational carding a one-over par (70). The junior posted his lowest round in two seasons to help soar the Gulls to the team title by eight strokes.
Palazzo tied for sixth at the invitational turning in a five-over par (74). The freshman posted the Gulls third best score coming in behind Viola and 2013-14 All-American, junior Austin Teal (Loudonville, N.Y.).
The Gulls are currently competing at the Southern Maine Invitational on day two. Yesterday the team currently sat on top out of nine with a score of 299.
