Baseball Breaks Even Against Suffolk In Sunday Doubleheader

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott baseball split a pair of non-conference games against Suffolk, 7-1 and 9-14, on Sunday evening at North Field.

GAME ONE: Endicott 7, Suffolk 1

WP: Nicholas Cannata (Marlborough, Conn.) — 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 SO
LP: George Breslin (Milton, Mass.) — 3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 SO
SV: None

Cannata was in command from start to finish as the freshman righty racked up a career-high eight strikeouts, induced 11 ground balls, and recorded four 1-2-3 innings to improve to 3-1 on the season.

Cannata only faced true danger in the fifth when Suffolk rattled off four straight singles to lead off the frame, but the freshman showed poised when it mattered most by rolling over two ground balls and striking out another quelling the Rams' rally attempt.

Offensively, Nickolas Perkins (Nashua, N.H.) and Jake Nardone (Wakefield, Mass.) both mashed two-run home runs in the second and fourth innings, respectively, before the Gulls added insurance runs later in the contest to secure the win.

GAME TWO: Suffolk 14, Endicott 9

WP: Caleb Piwnicki (Alton, N.H.) — 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO
LP: Ian Parent (Williston, Vt.) — 2 2/3 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 0 SO
SV: None

Behind an 11-run effort over the third and fourth innings combined, Suffolk eventually earned a split against Endicott in game two.

The Gulls didn't go away quietly in the contest despite being down 14-2 in the seventh inning as Caleb Shpur (East Canaan, Conn.) ripped a three-run home run to make it 14-5.

From there, Perkins and Nardone followed with RBI singles, while Liam Crovo (Melrose, Mass.) and Kyle Grabowski (Westfield, Mass.) plated runs via a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly to left field in the eighth to cut the deficit to five.

Rams' junior left-hander Casey Sullivan (Worcester, Mass.) put a stop to Endicott's comeback bid however closing out the final 1 1/3 innings via one hit, zero runs, no walks, and one strikeout.
