Suffolk Sweeps Baseball, 6-4 & 5-4

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott baseball team dropped a pair of conference matchups to Suffolk University, 6-4 & 5-4, on Wednesday night at North Field.

GAME ONE: Suffolk 6, Endicott 4

WP: Steven Rossi (Corning, N.Y.) – 6 1/3 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 9 K
LP: Michael Kozlowski (Cheshire, Conn.) – 3 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
SV: EJ Birch (Menands, N.Y.) – 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Trailing 6-0 in the bottom of the seventh, the Gulls came within striking distance of Suffolk behind a four-run frame but fell short of completing the comeback bid despite having the tying run at the plate with less than outs in the inning.

Joseph Millar (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) and Caleb Shpur (East Canaan, Conn.) both drove in runs to make it 6-2, before Kyle Grabowski (Westfield, Mass.) cut the deficit to 6-4 with a two-run double down the right field line to account for Endicott's scoring in the seventh.

GAME TWO: Suffolk 5, Endicott 4

WP: Caleb Piwnicki (Alton, N.H.) – 3 2/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
LP: Max Tarlin (Sharon, Mass.) – 2 1/3 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
SV: Birch – 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K

A four-run third inning for the Rams spelled the difference as Suffolk once again held off a late rally from the Gulls down the stretch to complete the sweep.

Endicott came within one run in the seventh after Millar scorched an RBI triple to right center, but the Rams were up to the task the rest of the way.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • Grabowski went 4-for-7 with two RBI combined in both games.
  • Liam Crovo (Melrose, Mass.) also produced two multi-hit contests going 4-for-7 with one RBI.
  • Despite the sweep, Endicott is 17-13 all-time against Suffolk.
  • Ian Parent (Williston, Vt.), Gabe Van Emon (Lexington, Mass.), and Rian Schwede (Whitman, Mass.) did not give up a single hit and struck out nine combined to close out the final five innings of game two.
