Prokop, Darmody Lead Gulls at WNEC Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, MA - Nicole Prokop (Montgomery, MA/Gateway) paced the Endicott College women's cross country team to a fifth place finish at the Western New England College Invitational in Springfield, MA on Saturday.

Prokop, a two-time All-TCCC runner, covered the 5,000 meter course at WNEC's Suprenant Field in 20:37 to take fourth place. The junior harrier was the second TCCC runner to cross the finish line as she was bested by only race winner Kaylee Martin (Holmes, NY) of WNEC, who finished in 19:54.

Just six seconds separated EC's second and third runners as Megan McGraw (Georgia, VT/Essex) and Jackie Collier (Swampscott, MA/Bishop Fenwick) finished 20th and 22nd in 22:23 and 22:29 respectively.

Lynn Gallagher (Lowell, MA/Lowell) continued the strong performance for the Blue and Green as she crossed the line in 23:10 for 34th place while Beth Carlson (Franklin, MA/Whitinsville) rounded out the scoring for the Gulls with her 45th place finish covering the 5,000 meters in 23:36.

The Gulls tallied 117 points to finish fifth in the team standings, just one point behind TCCC rival and race host Western New England. Clark won the team title with 57 points.

On the men's side Ryan Darmody (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth) Endicott to a ninth place finish. Darmody finished 46th, crossing the line in 30:57 to pace the Gulls. He was followed to the finish by Sam Turner (Portland, ME/Deering) who raced to 61st place in 31:50. Brendan Mitchell (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) and Michael Macisso (Portland, ME/Portland) also ran well for the Blue and Green as the duo crossed the line in 65th and 66th, both were credited with a time of 32:08.

Steve Bouchard (Saratoga, NY/Saratoga High) rounded out the scoring for Endicott with his 69th place finish as he covered the 8,000 meter course in 32:34 helping EC to a ninth place finish as a team.

American International College freshman Creig Levens (Cohoes, NY) ran away with top honors in 27:11 while WPI took the team title putting its top five finishers in the top ten for an impressive 28 total points.

The Blue and Green return to action Saturday, October 27 when the Gulls head to Biddeford, ME for The Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship Meet hosted by the University of New England.
