Endicott drops first conference game of the year, falls 73-64 to Colby-Sawyer

Senior Katelyn Stravinsky (Norwell, Mass.) scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Colby-Sawyer women’s basketball team past Endicott, 73-64, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action on Thursday evening.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 11-8 overall and 7-1 in TCCC play. Endicott sees its eight game win streak snapped and unblemished conference record erased, falling to 13-5 overall and 7-1 in conference play in the process.

The Chargers shot 42.3% from the beyond the arc, making 11-of-26 tries. Endicott dominated the paint with a 32-18 edge, but shot just 32.5% from the floor and 55.6% from the free throw line. 

Stravinsky was 8-of-16 from the floor and 6-of-11 from beyond the arc. Junior Kaitlin Fifield (Warner, N.H.) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Cailin Bullett (Millbury, Mass.) added 12 points, while sophomore Taylor DeSanty (North Adams, Mass.) chipped in 10.

Senior Ashley Wright (Merrimack, N.H.) paced the Endicott offense with 19 points, including 16 in the second half, and a season-high eight rebounds. Senior Ashley Vitale (Wilmington, Mass.) registered her sixth double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Samantha Crough (Cohasset, Mass.) added 10 points and five rebounds off the bench.  

Colby-Sawyer jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in the first three minutes of the contest and never looked back. The Chargers’ lead ballooned to as many as 20 in the first as they held the Gulls to 25% shooting in the frame.

Endicott was down as much as 24 early in the second before chipping away at the Chargers lead. The Gulls were able to cut the deficit down to six with under a minute to go in the contest, but a pair of free throws by Fifield and one by Stravinsky iced the game for Colby-Sawyer. 

Colby-Sawyer hits the road on Saturday for a 1:00 pm tip at Salve Regina. Endicott will host Regis at 1:00 pm also on Saturday.
