Rebel Games Day Four: Gulls nearly top Otterbein in extra innings

Kissimmee, Fla. – The Endicott softball team kicks off their 2013 season down in Kissimmee, Florida at the Rebel Spring Games as the Gulls are taking on a strong crop of regional and out-of-region opponents. 

On their fourth day of competition down in Florida, Endicott (0-8) remained winless after suffering losses to Augsburg and Otterbein.  The Gulls wrap up their spring break trip on Thursday, March 21st with a pair of games against Springfield and Otterbein at 9:00 am and 11:00 am.

Game One: Endicott 2, Augsburg 10 (5 inn.)

Endicott managed just three hits, including a RBI single by Krista Fales (Melrose, Mass.) in the first inning, as the Gulls lost in five innings to Augsburg.  Both of Endicott's runs, scored by Jamie Corda (Higganum, Conn.) and Jess Linden (Stratford, Conn.), came unearned on three Auggie errors.

The Blue and Green fell victim to a 2-for-3 day at the plate for Augsburg senior Kelsey Rorabeck (Hudson, Wis.) who plated five runners and scored twice herself.    

In the circle Augsburg saw pitchers Olivia Boerschinger (Neenah, Wis.) and Hannah Hansen (Maplewood, Minn.) combine to pitch five innings, allow just three hits and one walk while striking out two batters.

Game Two: Endicott 9, Otterbein 10 (9 inn.)

A four-run top of the fifth inning for Endicott tied the scoreboard at 7-7 against Otterbein but in extra innings, despite runs in the top of the eighth and ninth, the Cardinals were pull off a 10-9 win and squash Endicott's hopes of a first win in 2013. 

The Gulls got a two-RBI single by Sam DiBella (Danvers, Mass.), another RBI single from Byrne Katz (Trumbull, Conn.), and a triple by Alexis Page (Agawam, Mass.) that scored DiBella from second base as part of a four-run rally to tie the game in the top of the fifth.

On the mound for Endicott, freshman Courtney Blake (East Islip, N.Y.) forced a fly out in the bottom of the second with Otterbein's game-winning run on second base to send the game in extra innings.

The Gulls scored a run in the top of the eighth as Linden cracked a two-out single that scored Alexandra Moise (North Reading, Mass.) from second base.  Otterbein would respond in the bottom half of the inning with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 8-8.

In the top of the ninth, junior Jesse Bilafer (Concord, Mass.) advanced to third on a passed ball and then scored the go-ahead run on a Fales RBI single.  Otterbein went on to score two runs in the bottom half of the frame on a sacrifice fly and a game-winning double to left center by Laura Basford (Massillon, Ohio).

DiBella finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBi and two runs scored, Fales went 2-for-4 with a run and a RBI, and Jocelyn Russo (Middletown, Conn.) did some damage with  a two-RBI single in the fourth inning. 

Otterbein compiled 18 hits against Endicott pitching and stole seven bases.  Erin Carpenter (Birmingham, Ala.) led the team with four hits and two RBIs in the win.
