Rebel Games Day Three: Endicott continues Florida trip with two losses

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Endicott softball team kicks off their 2013 season down in Kissimmee, Florida at the Rebel Spring Games as the Gulls are taking on a strong crop of regional and out-of-region opponents.

On day three, Endicott remained winless after taking two more losses to Utica and Springfield on Tuesday.  The Blue and Green continue with two more games tomorrow morning at 9:00 am and 11:00 am against Augsburg and Otterbein.

Game One: Endicott 5, Utica 7

Endicott held a 5-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to a four-run top of the third that featured a solo homerun by Alli Noyes (Tewksbury, Mass.) and RBIs by Jesse Bilafer, Krista Fales (Melrose, Mass.), and Byrne Katz (Trumbull, Conn.).

The Gulls tacked on one more run in the top of the fourth on a passed ball to make it 5-1 before Utica stormed back with three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to stun Endicott 7-5.  Pioneers sophomore Courtney Fitzgerald (Albany, N.Y.) recorded two RBIs in each of those innings including a two-run homerun in the sixth to put Utica on top for good.

Endicott pitcher Cameron Sprague (Clifton Park, N.Y.) held Utica to just one run on five hits over the first four innings before Utica exploded for six runs in the final two frames.  Sprague's counterpart, freshman Abby Monroe (Watertown, N.Y.), earned the win in relief by going 4 1/3 innings, allowing just unearned run on two hits while striking out five Gulls.

Game Two: Endicott 1, Springfield 11 (5 inn.)

Springfield scored six runs over the first two innings en route to an 11-1 win in five innings over Endicott in game two of the day.  The Gulls managed to score one run in the bottom of the fifth as sophomore Amanda Campbell (Billerica, Mass.) singled to lead off the inning, reached third base, then scored on an error.

Springfield got five strong innings from junior pitcher Jennifer Joseph (Stamford, Conn.) who struck out seven batters while allowing just one unearned run on five hits and two walks.

Offensively, the Pride were led by a 4-of-4 performance at the plate by freshman Jenna Webb (Harrison, N.Y.).  Webb knocked in six runs as two of her four hits were doubles.  Christina Leader (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and Breann Joyce (Trumbull, Conn.) also added two RBI each.
