Endicott gives great effort at UMass Dartmouth

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Endicott College women's and men's cross country teams finished 22nd and 37th respectively at the UMass-Dartmouth "Shriners" Cross Country Invitational held on Saturday. Current TCCC Runner of the Week Nicole Prokop (Montgomery, Mass.) and freshman Greg Payne (North Attleboro, Mass.) led the way for the Gulls to their finishes.

On the women's side, Nicole Prokop finished with a time of 20:06 which was good enough for a 99th place finish out of 310 runners. Prokop was the third TCCC runner to cross the finish line behind two runners from Roger Williams. Freshman Brittaney Plante (Nashua, N.H.) finished in 141st place and junior Megan McGraw (Georgia, Vt.) finished in 144th with times of 20:59 and 21:01, respectively.

MIT was able to finish as the top women's team at the meet by scoring 67 points while Amherst and Brandeis finished in second and third place. Elise Tropiano (Plainview, N.Y.) was able to take the top spot for the women as she finished with a time of 18:11. Springfield College's Amanda DiPaolo (Garrison, N.Y.) and MIT's Jacqui Wentz (Santa Rosa, Calif.) finished in second and third place respectively with times of 18:22 and 18:30.

For the men, freshman Greg Payne led the Gulls with a 111th place finish out of 278 with a time of 27:26. Brendan Mitchell (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Michael Macisso (Portland, Maine) were the next two Gulls to finish as they were able to run average miles of 6:10 and 6:17 respectively, finishing five minutes off the time of the winning runner.

Keene State finished as the top men's team with an average time of 25:28 good for only 85 points. Coast Guard and MIT rounded out the top three with point totals of 115 and 118. Northeastern's Teddy Vrountas (Sandwich, Mass.) was able to take home the individual crown with a time of 25:04 while Southern Maine's Tyler Jasud (Rumford, Maine) and Brandeis' Paul Norton (Amherst, Mass.) finished second and third.

The Blue and Green continue their action when both teams travel to Middletown, Connecticut for the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday. The men will start at 11:00 a.m. while the women hit the trails at 12:00 p.m.
