Beverly, Mass.
– For the first time this season, the Endicott
men’s soccer team won back-to-back games after defeating Anna
Maria College 2-0 on Saturday evening. The win improved the
Gulls record to 2-6-1 (2-3 TCCC) while the AmCats remained
winless at 0-10 (0-6 TCCC).
Endicott and Anna Maria went
scoreless in the first half, but the Blue and Green wasted no time
getting on the scoreboard in the second half to ensure a victory on
Homecoming Weekend.
Just under two minutes into the
second half, at 46:35, freshman forward \#Alex Elia\# (Somers,
Conn.) netted his second goal of the season after delivering the
ball past Anna Maria keeper Eric Perkins (Peabody, Mass.) for the
game’s first goal. Perkins had saved an initial shot by
\#Craig Jameson\# (Bedford, N.H.) but the deflected save was hit
right near Elia for the clear shot. Elia’s goal was also
his second game-winning goal of the year.
Later in the half, it was
Jameson who found the back of the net after sophomore midfielder
\#Kevin Ivester\# (Topsfield, Mass.) sent a cross in to the box
that Jameson redirected past the goalie. The goal at 65:09,
was Jameson’s second of the season.
Despite letting up the two
goals, Perkins finished the match with 11 saves. Endicott
keeper \#Daniel Higgins\# (Kingstown, R.I.) made two saves to
record the shutout win. The Gulls had 29 shot attempts
compared to just two for the AmCats.
Endicott also took eight corner
kicks compared to just one for Anna Maria.
The Blue and Green will return
to the pitch on Wednesday, October 6 for a road conference match
against Gordon College starting at 3:00 pm. Anna Maria will
look for their first win on Tuesday, October 5 against Regis
College.
