Gulls Down Western New England, 53-12

BEVERLY, Mass.  – The Endicott men's club rugby team hosted Colonial Coast Rugby Conference (CCRC) rival Western New England University on Saturday beating the Golden Bears 53-12.

The scoring started early for the Gulls with the help of senior captain Brian Sussingham (Yonkers, N.Y.) scoring in the first two minutes of play. The Gulls kept dominating the first half with scores from Thomas Oliva (Rutland, Mass.), Marc Lerebours (Norwalk, Conn.), John Clavin (North Providence, R.I.), and Conor O'Neill (Chester, N.J.). Calvin also converted two of the tries scored in the first half, which helped give the Gulls a 29-0 lead going into halftime.

The Gulls started out the second half by adding onto their lead with the help of Sussingham who scored again in the first five minutes of the half. The Golden Bears responded quickly by scoring their first try, making it a 34-5 match. Two more tries were scored by Oliva and Sussingham before the Golden Bears scored again. The match was closed out by senior David Castelluccio (Reading, Mass.) with a last minute try making the final score 53-12.

"It looked like it was going to be a close one for the first 15 minutes of the match," said Sussingham. "We started capitalizing on their mistakes and took control of the game. It was nice to see a lot of the new player get in at the end of the game and continue the work that was put in in the first half."

This week's "Man of Match" is senior Tom Oliva. On top of his 2 tries Olivia did a great job making great runs when the ball came to his feet in scrums.

Endicott will return on action on Saturday, October 22nd when they host Massachusetts Maritime Academy for a 5 p.m. start.
