CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Endicott men's lacrosse team fell to No. 8 nationally ranked Cortland State, 17-6, on Wednesday evening in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at the Stadium Complex.
Colin Bannon (Westport, Conn.) and Tommy Hughes (Coram, N.Y.) paced Endicott offensively with two goals apiece, while Matthew Faucher (Western Springs, Ill.) and Will Jennings (Danvers, Mass.) both found their way into the scoring column for the Gulls with one goal each.
Meanwhile, Devin Phelps (Chittenango, New York) led all scorers with six goals and two assists for eight points in the Red Dragons' win. Thomas McNaney (Marcellus, New York) also added a hat-trick and two helpers in the contest.
Despite the loss, Endicott's seniors class that includes Bannon, Carter Glenn (Underhill, Vt.), Thomas Harvey (Huntington, N.Y.), Shane Hughes (York Beach, Maine), T. Hughes, Jennings, Pat Shelley (Poland, Maine), and Kenny Sturgess (Hampstead, N.H.) continued and expanded upon the men's lacrosse program's history of excellence. All told, the 2017 senior class produced a 50-26 record overall (.658), a 31-1 mark in conference play (.969), won two Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championships, appeared in all four CCC title games, and made three NCAA Tournament second round appearances.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Today's matchup was just the second meeting between the programs in the all-time series (Cortland State, 2-0).
- Both contests occurred in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
- Bannon wraps up his career ranked second all-time in points (tied, 293), sixth in goals (155), and second in assists (138).
- Jennings concludes his career ranked seventh all-time in points (247), and third in goals (188).

- In today's game, T. Hughes went 19-for-26 at the face-off X, and also scooped up 11 ground balls.

- Joe Scalise (Fairport, N.Y.) stopped nine shots in the victory (16-2).
- Joey Panariello (Islip, N.Y.) and T.J. deLyra (Brightwaters, N.Y.) chipped in with two goals apiece.

Endicott's 2017 season comes to a close at 10-8 overall. No. 8 Cortland State (16-2) will play the winner of St. Lawrence and Montclair State in the third round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, May 13.
