Men’s Basketball Pulls Away From Western New England, 83-64

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's basketball team used a 15-0 run late in the contest to lock up an 83-64 conference victory over Western New England University on Thursday night at MacDonald Gymnasium.

Keith Brown (Pelham, N.H.) paced all scorers with 29 points (11-20 FG, 6-11 3PT, 1-1 FT), while Matt McDevitt (Cumberland, Maine) chipped in with 16 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Endicott's remaining starters Jordan Pettway (Bridgeport, Conn.), Joe Shehadi (Dorset, Vt.), and Nick Thibeault (Gorham, Maine) also played major roles in the win. Pettway contributed 12 points, Shehadi nearly came away with a double-double (8 points, 10 rebounds), and Thibeault compiled five points, seven rebounds, two assists, and a steal to round out the trio.

Leading 68-59 with 6:56 remaining in the game, the Gulls' offense caught fire as Endicott converted six unanswered baskets before John Homsey (Windham, N.H.) capped the run with a pair of made free throws at the 1:52 mark (83-59).

Homsey guided the run with five points (made three-pointer at 5:38, 73-59 lead), while Pettway and Shehadi notched four points, respectively. Mathew Catizone (Woburn, Mass.) also nailed a jumper at 4:50 (75-59) to aid Endicott's spurt.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott's starters (Brown, McDevitt, Pettway, Thibeault, Shehadi) contributed 70 of the 83 points scored in the matchup.
  • The Gulls' 15-0 run down the stretch put the hosts ahead by 24 points, which fell two points shy of tying their largest lead of 26 points set earlier in the game at 16:02 of the second half (63-37).
  • Endicott improved to 15-6 in the all-time series against Western New England with tonight's win.
  • The Gulls are 4-1 at home this season.

Endicott (9-3, 2-1 CCC) hosts Roger Williams on Saturday, January 5 at 3 PM. Western New England (3-9, 0-4 CCC) welcomes the University of New England to its campus this Saturday at 3 PM.
