CHANDLER, Ariz. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) has released their annual Division III National Academic Squad for the 2014 season. 14 members of the field hockey team along with the team as a whole have been honored for their dedication not only on the field but more importantly in the classroom.
This year marks the eighth consecutive season the Blue and Green have garnered the NFHCA team academic award, which is presented to teams that have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 of higher during the fall 2014 semester. This group of Gulls ended 2014 with an impressive 3.33 GPA as they finished the season as the CCC runner-ups.
In addition to the 14 members honored, senior Elizabeth LeClair (Wilton, Maine) was recognized for earning a spot on the National Academic Squad for all four years of her collegiate career. LeClair becomes just the fifth member in program history to earn this distinction.
The remaining 13 members to receive recognition are: Ashleigh Allen (Glastonbury, Conn.), Morgan Bresnahan (South Burlington, Vt.), Courtney Brown (Byfield, Mass.), Melanie Kaleta (Bellingham, Mass.), Maggie Layo (Sandwich, Mass.), Kristen O'Brien (New Boston, N.H.), Emily Paladino (North Reading, Mass.), Taylor Przybylski (South Windsor, Conn.), Rachel Samia (Conway, N.H.), Siena Tansey (West Springfield, Mass.), Madi Wood (Bristol, Vt.) Kathryn Walker (Middlebury, Conn.) and Lauren Yakush (South Glen Falls, N.Y.).
Bresnahan, O'Brien, Przybylski and Walker are honored for their third consecutive year while Paladino and Tansey have been recognized for the second straight year.
