Gulls hold off Engineers, 3-1

Nov. 12, 2008

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Endicott College moved back into the win column on Wednesday evening as the Gulls posted a 3-1 road win against the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass. The Engineers fall to 2-2 on the season, while Endicott improves to 6-5-1 with the win.

Ryan Donovan put the Gulls on the board late in the first period, scoring what would be the only goal in the first 50 minutes of action. This early defensive struggle gave way to a wild final 10 minutes that saw the teams combine for three goals and 18 penalty minutes.

A holding call on John Joaquin put Tech on the power-play with 9:25 remaining. However, the advantage was short-lived, as Justin Myers was sent to the box just over a minute later for interference. That penalty would prove to be crucial, as Joaquin left the box and scored the eventual game-winner just 12 seconds into the ensuing Endicott power-play. Park put the Cardinal and Gray back within striking distance with 2:46 remaining, with help from Dustin Kendrick and Myers. That would be the closest the hosts would get, as the Gulls received an insurance goal from Chris Linnehan with 19 seconds remaining.

Stephen Yablonski picked up the loss, despite stopping 32 shots in net. The sophomore has totaled at least 30 saves in each of his last two games. The Endicott net-minders made 27 saves, while allowing just the one MIT goal. The Engineers failed to score a power-play goal for the first time this season, going 0 for eight with a man advantage.

MIT will look to snap their two-game skid on Saturday, November 15 when they host Westfield State at 7:00 p.m. Endicott returns to action on Saturday as it plays host to Boston College at 7:40 p.m. in Hamilton, Mass. at the Pingree School.
