BRISTOL, R.I. – An RBI groundout by freshman Harry Oringer (Dartmouth, Mass.) accounted for Endicott’s lone run against Roger Williams on Saturday as the Hawks defeated the Gulls 4-1.  Although conference opponents, this game did not count against the league standings.

Endicott dropped to 11-13 on the season while Roger Williams ended a three-game skid, improving to 7-19 on the year.

Gulls hurler Brendan Pittsley (Plympton, Mass.) struck out seven Roger Williams hitters but after 3 1/3 innings pitched, the junior allowed four earned runs to cross the plate on 10 hits.  Fellow junior Kevin Dupras (Belchertown, Mass.) came on in relief and was near perfect, allowing just one hit with no walks and three punch outs in the final 4 2/3 innings.  Seven of the 13 outs recorded by Dupras were groundouts.

In the first inning, Hawks left fielder Mike Pascarella (Milford, Conn.) and shortstop John Oppenhimer (Westport, Conn.) reached on one-out singles.  Trevor Manzi (Beverly, Mass.) would follow with an RBI single through the left side on a hit-and-run play to score Pascarella and put Roger Williams on top 1-0.

In the following inning, Roger Williams tacked on two more runs after a Mike Thomas (Plainville, Conn.) RBI triple to deep right field.  Derek Jerome (New Bedford, Mass.) gave the Hawks a 3-0 advantage as Thomas came in on Jerome’s infield single to short. The Hawks added one more in the third with Pascarella scoring from third on a wild pitch with two outs.

A strong performance on the mound by Hawks pitcher Sean Boyle helped keep Endicott off the board over the first six innings. The Gulls scored their only run of the game in the seventh inning, with Tad Gold (Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.) coming in on an RBI groundout by Oringer.

Tony Trafecanty (Franklin, Mass.) notched the save with a scoreless ninth inning.

For Endicott, Gold was 2-for-4 at the dish with a run scored while Danny Mello (Peabody, Mass.) went 2-for-4 as well.
Endicott travels to MIT on Monday for a 3:30 pm game with the Engineers.
