Lancaster, PA - The Gulls were swept in a double-header this afternoon by the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats by scores of 5-1 and 6-0. In the first game of the day junior Steve Vidmosko (Shelton, CT/Fairfield Prep) was the bright spot with his perfect day at the plate going three for three with two singles and a double. In the back end of the double header Diplomat senior pitcher EJ Leary (Seymour, CT/Seymour) had five no-hit innings and junior pitcher Jeffrey Rowland (York, PA/Dallastown) allowed just two hits in his two innings of work.
In addition to Vidmosko's three hits in the first game, senior Mark Vaughan (North Reading, MA/North Reading) and freshman Brian Andersen (Grafton, MA/Grafton) also had hits on the day. The hit was Andersen's first of his collegiate career. Another freshman who made his collegiate debut was David Weinreich (Milford, CT/Jonathan Law) came in during the sixth inning with the bases loaded and was able to shut the Diplomats down. Playing well for the Diplomats were senior Gary Kruger (East Islip, NY/East Islip) had a triple, a single, a run scored and an RBI while senior Corey Caruthers chipped in with three singles and an RBI.
The story of the second game of the day was the Diplomat pitching. Leary and Rowland combined for a two hitter that was broken up by the Gulls' Abe Bellini (Watertown, MA/Watertown) who had a single in the bottom of the sixth inning. The other hit on the day came from sophomore Dan Gomez (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) who also had a walk. The only other Gulls batter to reach base was senior Matt Bishop (Woburn, MA/Woburn) who drew a walk in the second inning.
The Gulls have tomorrow off and are back in action on Tuesday March 21, 2006 when they face-off against the Lynchburg College Hornets in Lynchburg, VA. First pitch is at 2:00pm.
