Endicott Athletics Celebrates NCAA Division III Week

Endicott student-athletes gather for leadership programming event.

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott Athletics & Recreation Department will celebrate NCAA Division III Week (April 3-9) in a variety of different ways over the next seven days. To find out more about what NCAA Division III Week fully encompasses, and to view a schedule of events for the week, check out the information below.

WHAT IS DIVISION III WEEK?

Division III Week is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with a Division III institution to observe and celebrate the impact athletics and student-athletes have on campus and in the surrounding community. During the week, every Division III school and conference office is encouraged to conduct an outreach activity that falls into one of three categories: academic accomplishment; athletic experience; or leadership/community service/campus involvement. Division III Week is a strategic initiative that achieves its desired impact from a unity of effort. It harnesses everyone working toward the same goal at the same time to build a greater awareness and understanding of Division III athletics.

HOW ENDICOTT PLANS TO CELEBRATE?

The Endicott Athletics & Recreation Department actually kicked-off its D3 Week festivities yesterday when Endicott Director of Athletics Brian Wylie presented on the following topics to the entire student-athlete body: the NCAA Division III philosophy, and the history and rationale of the Leaders of the Endicott Athletics Department (L.E.A.D.) program.

Wylie discussed how the leadership program came to be, the reasoning behind it, the research in coming up with the program's four core standards, and finally why they were first introduced at last year's D3 Week festivities.

To learn more about the core standards that accompany the L.E.A.D. acronym – Commitment, Character, Effective Communication, and Confidence – read the following story about it: L.E.A.D. – Leaders of the Endicott Athletic Department.

Student-athletes Chris Lipscomb (West Springfield, Mass.), Nick Weinstein (Trumbull, Conn.), Lindsee Allienello (East Providence, R.I.), and Maggie Layo (Sandwich, Mass.) followed Wylie in the presentation by discussing what the core standards meant. All student-athletes in attendance then answered questions that were created by a panel before women's volleyball student-athlete Lauren Sheehan (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) wrapped up the forum with a speech about how she has integrated all four core standards into her athletic, academic, and social life endeavors. She also related the core standards back to her team's championship season and her current internship with the Boston Celtics.

The following social media activities and games/matches will also take place during the week to celebrate D3 Week:

Monday – Friday: Unveiling of Tom Curry's D3 Week videos (two a day throughout the entire week).
Tuesday: Day in the Life video with baseball student-athlete Cam Farnham (Andover, Mass.), men's tennis student-athlete Christos Papadopoulos (Weymouth, Mass.) and men's cross country student-athlete Will Connelly (Barrington, R.I.) take over the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) twitter handle.
