Wesley Wins UNE Invitational, Gulls Finish Fourth Overall

Jules Wesley pushes hard towards the finish line in her first-ever win for Endicott.

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Behind a first place finish from Jules Wesley (Beverly, Mass.), the Endicott women's cross country team placed fourth overall at the University of New England (UNE) Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Rotary Park.

The host Nor'easters extended their winning streak at the UNE Invitational to five straight seasons with 44 points, while Gordon ranked second (56), and Worcester State finished third (63). Meanwhile, Endicott checked in at fourth overall (82) and Roger Williams registered 122 points to round out the top-5.

Emma Farrington (Essex Junction, Vt.) followed in fifth place (20:07.0), while Abigail Keim (Williston, Vt.) checked in at 19th overall (21:22.7), and Laura Pomeroy (Windham, N.H.) placed 31st (21:41.4).

TOP QUOTE

"The ladies fought hard against conference competition and took advantage of seeing the conference championship course. We still have a lot of work to do but we're happy with our execution during the first few races," said Endicott women's cross country head coach Spencer Lange. "It was great seeing Jules and Emma up in the top-5 and putting themselves out there. The rest of the ladies really pushed hard during the last mile or so to move up in some critical spots. The next few weeks off from racing will serve as a great benefit to develop the necessary fitness for the latter part of the season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Dating back to 2006, Wesley is just the second Endicott women's student-athlete to win the UNE Invitational joining Kelsey Conn (Batavia, N.Y.) in the record books. Conn achieved the feat on September 8, 2007 with a time of 20:35.
  • Wesley finished exactly four seconds faster than the second place runner in today's invitational.
  • Farrington was the first freshman in the race to cross the finish line today.
