Second Half Surge Lifts Gulls Over Gordon; Schneidenbach Tallies Game Winner in Three Point Effort

WENHAM, Mass. – The Endicott women's soccer team traveled to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Gordon on Saturday afternoon for a  North Shore Cup matchup. Senior Hannah Schneidenbach (Charlestown, R.I.) compiled a three point effort to help lift the Gulls to a 2-1 victory as she tallied the game winning goal. Endicott improves to 7-2-3 (3-1-1 CCC) while the Fighting Scots fall to 7-5-0 (2-3-3 CCC).

Endicott will see action next on Tuesday, October 7th as they travel to NESCAC foe Tufts for a 3:30 p.m. match. Gordon will play next on Thursday, October 9th as they host North Shore Cup opponent, Salem State for a 3:30 p.m. matchup.

The first half was a battle as the Fighting Scots just outshot the Blue and Green 8-5 and 2-1 in corner kicks. In the opening 20 minutes of play the Gulls fought hard in the final third as they peppered the Gordon defense taking three huge shots. Gordon pushed for some opportunities of their own forcing senior goalkeeper Katie Donnelly (Madison, Conn.) to make three important saves.

At the 24 minute mark the Fighting Scots got on the board first after freshman Kaelyn Silveira (Bristol, R.I.) tallied her first goal of the season to take a 1-0 lead.

Both sides worked their respective ends but could not capitalize. Endicott continued to pepper the defense taking two key shots in the final 15 minutes of the first half but they could not find the back of the net as they entered halftime down by one.

The second half showed a stronger group of Gulls as they outshot their opponent 7-4 while forcing two corner kicks. 10 minutes into the second half the Blue and Green made it an even score after junior Rebecca Litwin (Westborough, Mass.) controlled a feed from Schneidenbach and blasted the ball into the back of the net to tally her second goal of the season.

With the goal the Blue and Green were hungry for more as they forced junior goalkeeper McKenzie Dion (North Grafton, Mass.) to make two big saves in just three minutes.  The first came from Endicott's leading scorer Paige Marinelli (Burlington, Conn.) as she ripped a shot at goal but Dion was able to make the stop. Two minutes later senior Clare Mansfield (Stoneham, Mass.) blasted a shot at goal that Dion was able to stop but not control. Schneidenbach stepped in and controlled the rebound and found the back of the net to mark her first goal of the season and fourth of her career.

The Fighting Scots had one more opportunity to find the equalizer as senior Taylor McSherry (Wolcott, Conn.) sent a shot at goal but Donnelly was able to jump in and make the save to help secure the 2-1 victory.

Donnelly earned her sixth win on the season with her six saves while her counterpart Dion fell to 7-4 in her four save effort.
