Gulls Open CCC Play With 10-8 Loss To Gordon

BEVERLY, Mass. ­– The Endicott women's lacrosse team opened Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play Wednesday night with a 10-8 loss to visiting Gordon College at Hempstead Stadium as sophomore attack Jess Glenn (Underhill, Vt.) recorded her second hat trick of the season to pace the Gulls' offensive attack in the setback.

In a back-and-forth first half, Endicott managed a 5-4 advantage heading into the break as five different Gulls notched their names on the stat sheet.

Endicott led, 8-6, with 22:35 remaining in the game, but the Fighting Scots scored four unanswered goals down the stretch to defeat Endicott for the first time in the past 13 meetings.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Freshman midfielder Ali Campbell (Lakeville, Mass.) added one goal and one assist.
  • Sophomore attack Erin McCarthy (Old Lyme, Conn.),freshman defender Molly McMahon (Hanover, Mass.), freshman midfielder Jackie Neilsen (Agawam, Mass.), and sophomore midfielder Olivia Larson (Cheshire, Conn.) all contributed solo tallies.
  • Larson won a career-high (game-high) six draw controls.
  • Senior defender Elizabeth Reda (Wilton, Conn.) had a team-high two caused turnovers.
  • Junior midfielder Emily Whitney (Rye, N.H.) racked up her team-leading seventh assist with one feed tonight.
  • Junior goalie Maura Grady (Marblehead, Mass.) stopped seven of the 17 shots she faced as she fell to 1-8 on the season.

FOR THE FOES

  • Gordon converted 5-of-9 free-position shots.
  • Freshman attack/midfielder Olivia McCarrick (Glen Burnie, Md.) potted a game-high four goals as all of them came by way of a free-position shot.
  • Senior midfielder Bailey Grinnell (South Hamilton, Mass.) registered a hat trick.
  • Senior midfielder Jessica Castelline (Concord, Mass.) chipped in two goals.
  • Junior midfielder MC Aston (Greenwich, N.Y.) netted one goal for the guests and had a game-high three caused turnovers.
  • Junior goalie Jackie Kiernan (Lexington, Mass.) earned her second win of the season (2-5) in goal as she made a game-high nine saves. Kiernan scooped up a game-high four ground balls.
  • Gordon is on a two-game win streak after opening the season with five consecutive losses.

NOTES

  • The Gulls are 14-11 all-time and  9-5 at home vs. Gordon dating back prior to the 2001 season.
  • Endicott had won 12 straight meetings with Gordon before tonight, including a 10-7 win in Wenham, Mass. on April 14, 2015 last season.
  • The last time Gordon beat Endicott before tonight was a 17-9 victory in Wenham, Mass. on April 18, 2007.

Endicott (1-8, 0-1 CCC) travels to Milton, Mass. to take on Curry College in Commonwealth Conference (CCC) action at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6th. Gordon (2-5, 1-0 CCC) hosts Nichols on Saturday, April 2nd at 11:30 a.m.
