Gulls Suffer 19-3 Setback To No. 3 Trinity College Bantams On Last Day In Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. ­– The Endicott women's lacrosse team was thumped, 19-3, by the No. 3 nationally-ranked Trinity (Conn.) Bantams Thursday morning at the National Training Center (NTC) Field to close out the Gulls' Spring Break trip.

The Bantams scored three quick goals in the first two minutes of the game and didn't look back as junior midfielder Karly Simpson (South Hadley, Mass.) had three of the team's first four tallies.

Trinity was up by as much as nine before Endicott ended the shutout at the 10:24 mark in the half on freshman midfielder Jackie Neilsen's (Agawam, Mass.) first career goal.

The Bantams led 13-1 at the break and tacked on six more goals in the second half as 12 different student-athletes found the back of the net on the day for Trinity.

Sophomore midfielder Olivia Larson (Cheshire, Conn.) scored twice in the second half for the Gulls for her first two career goals in the defeat.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Trinity out-shot the Gulls, 29-10, including a 19-7 margin in the first half.
  • The Bantams forced 22 Endicott turnovers (17 caused), compared to 12 turnovers (six caused) by the Gulls' defense.
  • Junior goalie Maura Grady (Marblehead, Mass.) stopped eight shots as she fell to 0-5 on the season before giving way to sophomore goalie Molly Lane (Durham, Maine) with 11:55 remaining in the game.
  • Larson also had a team-high two caused turnovers, tied for team high with two draw controls, and a team-high three ground balls on the day.

FOR THE FOES

  • Trinity is ranked No. 3 in the latest Division III IWLCA poll as of March 14, 2016.
  • Senior goalie Emily Mooney (New York, N.Y.) earned the win in goal (2-0) for the Bantams as she made three saves before giving way to sophomore netminder Caroline Cranley (Summit, N.J.) in the second half.
  • Simpson and junior attack Emma Malicki (Loudonville, N.Y.) each recorded three goals and one assist, while freshman midfielder Mary French (Gloucester, Mass.) was the next closest in points with a hat trick and a game-high four ground balls.
  • Senior co-captain Ashely Stewart (Dover, Mass.) paced the defense with a game-high four caused turnovers and three ground balls in the rout.
  • 19 goals is a season-high for the Bantams and allowed a tied-for-season-low three scores.

NOTES

  • The Gulls are 0-4 all-time and 0-1 in neutral locations versus Trinity dating back to the 2007 season.
  • The Bantams won, 15-7, in the most recent meeting before today on March 17, 2011 when Trinity was ranked No. 6 in the nation at the time.
