Three Gulls Earn IWLCA All-Region Nod

IWLCA DIVISION III ALL-REGION

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's lacrosse team had three student-athletes garner Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III All-Region honors as announced today by the IWLCA.

Endicott's junior midfielder Chelsea Burke (Georgetown, Mass.) and sophomore attack Erin McCarthy (Old Lyme, Conn.) earned their first career IWLCA honors, while junior midfielder Emily Whitney (Rye, N.H.) landed on the Second Team for the third consecutive season.

CHELSEA BURKE | JUNIOR | DEFENSE | GEORGETOWN, MASS.

This season, Burke was an All-CCC First Team member and was the program's fifth-ever Defensive Player of the Year winner. Burke paced the squad with 17 caused turnovers and was fourth with 31 ground balls. Burke put up career-high numbers with nine draws controls, four goals and two assists this season, scoring her first career goal against Wellesley on March 9th. Burke scooped up four ground balls on two occasions (Southern Maine and Roger Williams) to match her career-high.

ERIN MCCARTHY | SOPHOMORE | ATTACK | OLD LYME, CONN.

McCarthy, an All-CCC Second Team selection, finished second on the team in goals (30) and points (36) and ranks in a three-way tie for sixth all-time for most free-position goals in a single season with 14 this year. McCarthy potted a career-high four goals twice this season, against Southern Maine (March 19th) and the University of New England (April 26th).

EMILY WHITNEY | JUNIOR | MIDFIELD | RYE, N.H.

This season, Whitney was an All-CCC First Team selection. She tallied 38 goals, 23 assists, and 61 points on the season, bringing her to 194 career points that ranks eighth on the all-time Endicott points list, seventh in goals (138), and fifth in career assists (56). Whitney scored in 16 of the Gulls' 18 games this season, including eight games with at least three goals.

Endicott (8-10) finished the 2016 season as runner-up in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship.
