NCAA TOURNAMENT: Endicott Bows Out Against Eastern Connecticut State, 7-4

BANGOR, Maine — The Endicott softball team lost to No. 6 nationally ranked Eastern Connecticut State University, 7-4, on Saturday evening at O'Keefe Field.

WP — Carley Stoker (Sandy Creek, N.Y.) — 3 2/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K
LP — Maria Hanchuk (South Windsor, Conn.) — 3 IP, 5 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
SV — NONE

With the loss, Endicott's 2021 season comes to a close at 20-4 overall.

The Gulls made their 12th NCAA Tournament appearance this weekend, which is tied for the most appearances in school history (regardless of gender), while their 20-win season is the 21st overall in program history.

Meanwhile, the Warriors (32-3) will take on Tufts tomorrow at 10 AM.

Eastern Connecticut State will need to beat the Jumbos twice tomorrow as Tufts enters the final day of the tournament with a 2-0 record.

As for today's game, Eastern Connecticut State jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the first 3 1/2 innings of play and held on for the victory.

The Gulls did put together a valiant comeback bid — which was highlighted by their four-run fourth inning — but Stoker eventually found another gear to quell Endicott's chances at another come-from-behind victory in the tournament.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Lauren Misiaszek (Londonderry, N.H.) had the Gulls' lone RBI in the contest (25th this season) via a single through the left side in the fourth.
  • Zoe Rose (Carlstadt, N.J.) robbed Brooke Matyasovsky (Orange, Conn.) of a sure-fire extra-base hit in the seventh when she raced down a deep fly ball in center catching it in full-stride before crashing into the wall and hanging onto the ball for the first out of the frame.
  • Eastern Connecticut State is ranked No. 6 overall in the latest (May 5) National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA) Top-25 Poll.
