Softball Splits With Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – The Endicott softball team split a pair of Commonwealth Coast Conference contests with Gordon College, Sunday afternoon. The Gulls fell in game one 7-6 (nine inn.), but took the second, 6-1. 

GAME ONE: Gordon, 7 Endicott, 6 (9 inn.) 

WP: Maria Little (Port Deposit, Md.) 9 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 SO

LP: Maria Hanchuk (South Windsor, Conn.) 1 2/3 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO

The Gulls jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning which was highlighted by an Adrianna Favreau (Tewksbury, Mass.) RBI triple that plated Katie Watts (Swampscott, Mass.)

Gordon then responded with three unanswered runs during the fourth and fifth inning giving them a 3-2 lead heading into the top of the sixth. 

In the top of the sixth Meghan Connor (St. Albans, Vt.) reached first scoring Lauren Misiaszek (Londonderry, N.H.) to tie the game at three and bring the game to extra frames. 

In the extra innings, Connor gave the Gulls a 4-3 lead in the top of the eight with an RBI single to right-center field. However, Gordon responded with a run of their own to send the game to a ninth inning. 

In the top of the ninth, Favreau hit her second triple of the day scoring Watts and Emma DaSilva (Bristol, R.I.) to give Endicott a 6-4 lead. 

The Fighting Scotts responded again this time with a three-run ninth inning to secure the 7-6 win.  


GAME TWO: Endicott 6, Gordon 1 

WP: Hanchuk 5 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 4 SO

LP: Kristen Brown (Granite Springs, N.Y.) 4 1/3 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO

The Gulls jumped on the Fighting Scots early and often in game two scoring runs in the first, second, and third inning. 

Highlighting the Gulls offensively in game two was Connor who went 2-4 from the plate with a double, a home run, and three RBI's. 

Carly Marchitto (Orange, Conn.) also got in on the fun offensively for Endicott with a two-RBI double down the right-field line in the sixth inning to give the Gulls a 6-0 lead. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • Connor now has five home runs on the season. 
  • Favreau was impressive at the plate today for Endicott going 4-5 with two triples in game one and 2-3 with a double in game two, the senior infielder also earned hir 100th career hit. 
  • Michaela Hamill (Lynn, Mass.) was impressive in relief in game two striking out three in just two innings of work. 
  • Endicott is now 41-3 all-time vs. Gordon.

WHAT'S NEXT 

Endicott (8-2, 7-1 CCC) and Gordon (4-10, 2-4 CCC) will face off again on Wednesday for a pair of non-conference games at 3 and 5 PM at the Endicott softball complex.
