SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Nine members of the Endicott baseball team have been named to the All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) baseball team, which was announced on Wednesday afternoon by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.
First baseman Colin Sitarz (W. Hartford, Conn.) and center fielder Tad Gold (Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.) were the two Gulls named to the All-CCC First Team.
Third baseman Danny Mello (Peabody, Mass.), outfielder Michael Russo (Natick, Mass.) designated hitter Eric Lemke (Southington, Conn.) and pitcher Mike Nich (Orange, Conn.) were named to the All-CCC Second Team, while catcher Robert Goldstick (Deerfield, Ill.) and pitchers Benjamin Petrides (Belchertown, Mass.) and Connor McLaughlin (Clinton, Mass.) were Honorable Mention selections.
Sitarz is making his second consecutive appearance on the First Team after a year in which he batted .316 and co-led the team in hits with 42. Sitarz knocked 12 doubles, good for best on the team, and was second in the Endicott lineup with 34 RBIs.
Gold, making his first All-CCC team, led the Gulls is most offensive categories, including hits (42), runs batted in (38), total bases (70), triples (7), home runs (3), runs scored (39) and slugging percentage (.538). Gold batted .323 for the season and also led the team in stolen bases with 21, while providing solid defense (1 error and 75 putouts) in center field.
Mello, a senior who moves up to the First Team after being named to last season’s Second Team, was the leader on the Gulls in batting average, hitting at a .363 clip, scoring 25 runs and stealing 13 bases. Mello also hit 10 doubles and slugged .520 while hitting two home runs and driving in 16 runs.
Russo, a senior, was a .318 batter and a versatile corner outfielder who knocked seven doubles on the year, stole 12 bases and scored 22 times. He is back on the All-CCC team after being named Honorable Mention his freshman year.
Lemke crossed the plate 30 times this year while starting every game for the Gulls and knocking 33 hits, driving in 11 runs. He has now been named to the All-CCC Second Team for the third consecutive year.
Nich posted a 5-1 record in 11 appearances for the Gulls and had a 3.81 ERA while leading the team in strikeouts with 34. Nich also led the Gulls in innings pitched, firing 49.2 innings and three complete games. He walked just three batters and allowed only 21 earned runs all year.
Goldstick worked the bulk of the duty behind home plate for Endicott, calling games for a staff that had a combined ERA of just over 4.00. He also contributed offensively with two doubles, four RBIs and five runs scored in limited plate appearances.
Petrides, earning his third consecutive All-CCC selection, co-led the Gulls with a 5-1 record, pitching four complete games in his eight appearances. He threw 41.1 innings of work, striking out 22 batters to just eight walks, and held opponents to a .297 batting average.
McLaughlin was the anchor of a solid Endicott bullpen and had an unblemished 4-0 record and a team best 1.52 ERA. McLaughlin pitched 23.2 innings for Endicott allowing just four earned runs and posting a 17:4 strikeout to walk ratio. He also picked up two saves during the season.
Endicott finished their regular season on a five game win streak and won fifteen of their final sixteen games. The Gulls have grabbed the second seed in the CCC tournament thanks to a 12-4 conference mark and will host Gordon in the first game of their tournament run tomorrow at North Field at 3:00 pm.
