Gold Adds to Weekly Honors with ECAC Award

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Sophomore outfielder Tad Gold (Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.) has added to his weekly awards case. Gold was tabbed as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Batter of the Week a day after earned Player of the Week Honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).  
 
Gold started and played in all ten of the Gull’s games in Florida last week, hitting .364 while slugging .606. Gold, who had an on base percentage of .436, knocked four extra base hits (a double, two triples and a home run) and drove in 13 runs.
 
Gold also had a successful week on the base paths, stealing five bases in six attempts.
 
One of Gold’s best performances came in an 8-5 losing effort against non-conference foe Keene State in which he hit .667 (2-for-3) and knocked a three-run home run. Gold also had a 3-6 afternoon with 3 RBIs and two runs scored in the Gull’s first victory of the year, a 14-3 win over Fitchburg State. On the week, he logged a .606 slugging percentage and a .436 on-base percentage.
 
Gold is looking to improve on an impressive rookie season in which he hit .308 while playing in 46 games for the Gulls. Gold slugged 11 extra base hits and drove in 21 runs his rookie season, earning him a Rookie of the Week honor from the CCC along the way.
 
The Gulls began their 2012 season with a 4-6 trip in Florida, including a double-header sweep over Anna Maria, a split with Trinity College (Conn.) and the rout of Fitchburg State.
 
Endicott will open up its local schedule today with a 3:00 pm game at Salem State and then play their home opener tomorrow afternoon against Wheaton College (3:30 pm) at North Field.
