Mello Selected for NEIBA All-Star Game

BABSON PARK, Mass. – Endicott College senior third baseman Danny Mello (Peabody, Mass.) has been selected to play in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association's 38th Annual All-Star Game. The game will take place on Monday, June 4, 2012 at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Massachusetts at 7pm.

Mello led the Gulls in batting with a .353 average. He hit ten doubles and three homeruns, scored 27 times and collected 20 RBIs. Mello slugged .513 for the year, second on the team, and was also second with 14 stolen bases.

The NEIBA All-Star game pits the University Division Team, made up of Division I players from across the region, against the College Division, which this year is made up of 12 Division II standouts and 16 Division III senior all-stars. Leading the College Division team this year are four players from Franklin Pierce and four players from Southern New Hampshire, both Division II schools. Division III schools represented include Keene State, which has three selections, and Wheaton College, who recently won the NCAA New England Regional and is competing at the Division III world series in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Before the game, the NEIBA will also honor outstanding contributions to New England collegiate baseball. The Jack Butterfield Award, presented to a head coach each year, will be given to Southern Connecticut State's Tim Shea, while Brian Lambert of Brandeis will receive the Kevin Burr Assistant Coach Award. Bob Corradi, 40-yeaar head coach of Massachusetts Maritime Academy, will receive the Andy Baylock Distinguished Service Award.

LeLacheur Park is the home of the Lowell Spinners, a minor league team affiliated with the Boston Red Sox. The gate will open at 6pm and tickets will cost $5.
