AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Endicott got two complete game pitching performances and big offensive contributions in sweeping a double-header with the Amcats of Anna Maria College on Friday. Endicott won the first game 9-1 and took the nightcap 11-2 to improve to 3-5 in on the season.

Game 1

Tyler Hitchcock (Abington, Mass.) pitched seven innings, striking out three batters and allowing seven hits and no walks to improve his record to 1-1 on the season.

Endicott scored three runs in the third inning, all of them unearned via the benefit of an error and two passed balls.

In the fifth, Endicott added to their lead when Eric Lemke (Southington, Conn.) singled and stole second, and then was singled home by Michael Griffin (Arlington, Mass.). Griffin, the Endicott first baseman, had a 3-4 day, collecting two RBI’s and scoring once.

Left fielder Michael Russo (Natick, Mass.) had three RBI’s on the afternoon, including a bases-loaded hit by pitch in the fifth and a two-run double in the sixth that scored Griffin and right fielder Colin Sitarz (West Hartford, Conn.).

Anna Maria scored their lone run in the fifth inning when left fielder Andrew Dupre (Northbridge, Mass.) doubled in Carlos Ortiz (Worcester, Mass.).

Zach Rafferty (Worcester, Mass.) dropped to 1-1 on the season after pitching four and a third inning and allowing five runs on five hits. Rafferty struck out four batters but walked six Gulls on the afternoon.

Lemke had a 3-3 day while center fielder Tad Gold (Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.) had two RBI’s despite not collecting a hit.

Sitarz scored three times while second baseman Harry Oringer (Dartmouth, Mass.) crossed the plate twice.

Game 2

Benjamin Petrides (Belchertown, Mass.) gave almost an identical start to Hitchcock, improving his own record to 1-1 while allowing seven hits and two runs, striking out five and not allowing a walk in a complete game performance.

Sitarz (3-4) drove in four runs and Lemke crossed the plate four times. Tad Gold had a 2-2 day at the plate with two runs batted in and two scored.

Endicott came out of the gate with two runs in the first when Gold singled home Lemke then scored on a double by Sitarz.

The teams traded pairs of runs in the third, with Anna Maria getting all their offense from a Guarnieri single and a double by designated hitter Jeff Scafidi (Worcester, Mass.).

Endicott added another run in the fifth on a double by Tad Gold, then broke open the game with five runs in the sixth. Shortstop EJ Martinez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) walked and then stole second and third base to lead off the inning before scoring on a wild pitch. Lemke stroked an RBI single to bring in catcher Robert Golstick (Deerfield, Ill.) and Oringer scored on a wild pitch before Sitarz slammed a two-run double to bring home Gold, who had walked, and Lemke.

The Gulls capped their scoring in the seventh when Martinez led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by pinch-hitting catcher Chase Sullivan (Cumberland, R.I.).

Lucas Davis (Spencer, Mass.) and Phil Weihn (Clinton, Mass.) each allowed five runs, with Weihn’s outing lasting just two-thirds of an inning after Davis pitched the first five frames. Amcat pitchers walked six Gulls while recording just two strikeouts in the second game of the double-header.
