SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Steven Carter’s (Brunswick,
Maine) stellar pitching performance this week has been recognized
by the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) as Carter was named CCC
Pitcher of the Week, announced Tuesday by Commission Gregg M. Kaye.
Carter helped the Gulls to a 3-3 week, including three wins in the
conference as they opened up CCC play.
Carter, a sophomore right-handed pitcher, appeared in two games
this week for Endicott and posted a .000 ERA after not allowing an
earned run over nine innings. He recorded eight strike-outs and
allowed just six hits on the week.
In his first conference start of the year, Carter went the
distance and pitched Endicott to a 7-0 victory at Nichols on
Saturday, completing the double-header sweep. He struck out six and
held the Bison to just three hits as he picked up the sixth
complete game of the year for the Gulls.
In Endicott’s home-opener against regional power Wheaton
College earlier in the week, Carter pitched two innings and allowed
just an unearned run while striking out two batters. The Gulls
would eventually fall to Wheaton 8-7 in what would be a 14-inning
marathon game.
Carter has appeared in three games for Endicott this year and has
a 1-1 record with a 4.26 ERA. The sophomore hurler has struck out
11 batters in 12.2 innings of work.
This is the second consecutive week that Endicott has had a player
named to the CCC Weekly Baseball Awards list. Last week center
fielder Tad Gold (Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.) was named CCC
Offensive Player of the Week.
The Gulls will be on the road for their next three games, starting
this afternoon with a 3:30 pm game against Worcester State.
Endicott will then travel to two important CCC doubleheaders, this
Saturday at Eastern Nazarene and Sunday against Western New England
in Springfield.
