BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott baseball assistant coach Jon Cahill has been hired as the associate field manager for The North Shore Navigators of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL).

Cahill, a native of Peabody, Mass., will guide the Navigators as they begin their first season in this wooden bat collegiate baseball summer league after moving from the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL).

Cahill will deal with day to day responsibilities of the team, including filling the roster, maintaining equipment, and communicating with the Navigator’s front office. He will also be a liaison between the team and the administration of the Futures League.

“We have a thirty man roster, so we want to make sure that everyone gets to play and we put them in the best situation to succeed,” said Cahill. “We also want to build a strong community relationship in Lynn and set the stage for future success.”

In 2001, Cahill graduated from the University of Massachusetts – Lowell after helping them reach the Division II World Series for the first time in Riverhawks baseball history the same year. He was inducted in to the UMass Lowell Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.

After graduating, Cahill signed as a free agent infielder with the Anaheim Angels organization and stayed in the system for two years, making it as high as Double-A.   He then spent two seasons with the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League before coaching and managing independent baseball for the next six years.

“For me, this is also a great opportunity to improve my networking at the college level,” said Cahill, who has spent time at all levels of the game, including collegiately. “My goal is to continue with college baseball and do well enough to have the opportunity to be a head coach.”

Cahill and the Navigators will open their 2012 season on June 7th at 6:00 pm in Old Orchard Beach and will play their first home game the next night at Fraser Field in Lynn, Mass.
