SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore outfielder Tad Gold (Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.) has been named the first Endicott baseball Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. Gold started and played in all ten of the Gull’s games in Florida and led an Endicott offense that caught fire and pounded out an average of eight runs over their last seven games.

The Endicott center fielder hit .364 with four extra base hits (one double, two triples, one home run), 13 RBI, and crossed the plate eight times. In addition to collecting 13 hits in six games last week, he was speedy on the base paths, stealing five bases in six attempts.

One of Gold’s best performances came in an 8-5 losing effort against non-conference foe Keene State in which he hit .667 (2-for-3) and knocked a three-run home run. Gold also had a 3-6 afternoon with 3 RBIs and two runs scored in the Gull’s first victory of the year, a 14-3 win over Fitchburg State. On the week, he logged a .606 slugging percentage and a .436 on-base percentage.

Gold is looking to improve on an impressive rookie season in which he hit .308 while playing in 46 games for the Gulls. Gold slugged 11 extra base hits and drove in 21 runs his rookie season, earning him a Rookie of the Week honor from the CCC along the way.

The Gulls began their 2012 season with a 4-6 trip in Florida, including a double-header sweep over Anna Maria, a split with Trinity College (Conn.) and the rout of Fitchburg State.

Endicott will open up its local schedule tomorrow with a 3:00 pm game at Salem State and then play their home opener on Thursday against Wheaton College (3:30 pm).
